KIERAN RAYNER Introducing the team behind What If?KIERAN RAYNER: BARITONE, WRITER/CREATORIt’s me, telling you more about the show and its story!Kieran Rayner is a London-based New Zealand operatic baritone and Royal College of Music graduate. Career highlights include principal roles with The Royal Ballet & Opera Covent Garden, Garsington Opera, Longborough Festival Opera, English Touring Opera, IF Opera, Waterperry Opera Festival, NAFA Singapore & New Zealand Opera. Winner of SING FINZI 2022, International Handel Competition finalist, Wigmore Hall International Song Competition semifinalist & Royal Overseas League prizewinner. As a writer-performer, he opened his second choose-your-own-adventure song show What If? in the West End in 2025, and repeats it at the Bloomsbury Festival 2026. WHAT IF? COMPOSER SPOTLIGHT: EMILY HAZRATI @emilyh WHAT IF? COMPOSER SPOTLIGHT: EMILY HAZRATI@emilyhazrati’s wonderful setting of The Sick Rose by William Blake forms the emotional heart of one of our potential story arcs. This is the second show I have written this song into, and it’s so powerful every time. Here’s a short clip from our rehearsal at @citylit!Emily Hazrati is an award winning composer and educator based in London. Her music centres around environment, place and belonging; frequently informed by sounds and landscapes from the natural world, as well as ideas around breath, ritual, and circularity. She has a particular affinity to working with narrative and text, and is interested in collaborative, interdisciplinary ways of making art.Emily is Oxford Song’s Associate Composer for 2024-26, with a large-scale work premiering at Oxford International Song Festival in October 2026 as part of the Festival’s 25th anniversary celebrations. Her first full Festival commission was a new song cycle for Soraya Mafi and Ian Tindale, with text by writer and long-term collaborator Nazli Tabatabai-Khatambakhsh, taking inspiration from the Shahnameh (‘Book of Kings’, the national epic of Ancient Persia) and premiering in October 2025. Emily is also SongEasel’s inaugural Composer-in-Residence; creating new projects for their ‘Sweet Harmony’ Series with Nazli Tabatabai-Khatambakhsh, exploring ideas of cross-cultural exchange in dialogue with their shared Iranian heritage.🎥: @loulibell
