WHAT IF? COMPOSER SPOTLIGHT: ANDREW BALDWIN This WHAT IF? COMPOSER SPOTLIGHT: ANDREW BALDWINThis is an extract from Andrew Baldwin’s haunting setting of a diary entry from Australian soldier and painter Ellis Silas serving at Gallopoli - you may know his drawing ‘Roll Call’ based on his experience here. Originally scored for baritone, piano and violin (a wonderful version that I have also performed previously), Andrew kindly rearranged it for just voice and piano so we could perform it here. This haunting and heartbreaking embodiment of the horror and PTSD of losing comrades in battle is perfect for this moment of our story.Andrew Baldwin (b.1986) is a graduate of the Royal College of Music, London and the New Zealand School of Music, Wellington. His music has been widely commissioned, performed and recorded throughout New Zealand by established ensembles including the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia, New Zealand Youth Choir, Southern Sinfonia and the New Zealand Secondary Students Choir, and by ensembles in Australia, Japan, UK, USA, and Germany. His has been heard notably in Westminster Abbey, St Paul’s Cathedral London, Brussels Cathedral and Paris’ Cathédrale de Notre-Dame as well as regularly broadcast on radio and TV. Recently his work Dawn: May 11, 1915 was announced one of the winning works in the Gallipoli Songs Competition and was broadcast by ABC Classic FM and Radio NZ Concert on the 100th Anniversary of ANZAC Day.WHAT IF? – Choose-your-own-adventure meets classical songSunday 18 October, 3:30-4:30 & 6-7pmMarkson Recital Hall, City Lit, HolbornTickets via @bloomsburyfestival, link in bio#singer #piano #classicalmusic #chooseyourownadventure #theatre
